Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS)  

Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) is a home for 27,000 Tribal (Indigenous) Children, registered under Societies Act XXI of 1860, Estd. in 1993. It is an Organization in Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations, since 2015. It is a sister concern of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) Deemed to be University. Prof.( Dr.) Achyuta Samanta is the Founder of both KIIT & KISS. KISS is an initiative of social transformation through holistic education. It is the largest fully residential and fully free Educational Institute for the Tribals (Indigenous people) in the world, providing accommodation, food, healthcare, education from Kindergarten to Post Graduate, vocational training and all other basic amenities of life absolutely free with a provision of placement in various jobs after completion of education. KISS provides holistic education from Kindergarten to Post Graduation (K.G to P.G) including M.Phil and Ph.D programmes. It offers unique opportunity to the poverty stricken indigenous communities of the State of Odisha and that of the adjoining States KISS is one among 223 best NGOs of the world and 10 best NGOs of India in the prestigious ranking of world NGOs published in 2016 by the NGO Advisor, a Geneva-based independent media Organization. It has been associated with the United Nations Department of Public Information (UNDPI). The programmes and activities of KISS are aligned to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN. The motto of KISS is to eradicate poverty through education. KISS has been declared as Deemed to be University u/s 3 of the UGC Act 1956 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, in order to focus on teaching and research in unique and ‘emerging areas of knowledge’ related to Tribal Culture, Philosophy, Heritage, Tribal Science and Technology, Linguistic and Literature and its link with modern subject of studies.
